Originally built in 1914 as a luxurious hunting lodge by Charles Hardy, a prosperous Boston stockbroker, it soon became a summer refuge for affluent visitors seeking to escape the heat of cities like New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. Designed by Boston architects Harvey Bailey Alden and William H. Cox, the inn offered modern conveniences for its time, including long-distance telephones and saltwater baths in every room.
