Travel Curator, a well-regarded travel and hospitality site, recently released its list of the 35 best small towns to visit across the United States, and among them, Chatham, Massachusetts, earned the distinction of being Massachusetts' coolest small town.
The feature described Chatham as a town where Cape Cod’s coastal charm shines through in its beaches, iconic lighthouses, and rich history.
Travel Curator suggested that visitors explore the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for migratory birds, gray seals, and other fascinating wildlife.
Beyond the refuge, Chatham boasts pristine coastal spots like Lighthouse Beach, the town’s largest beach, guarded by a historic lighthouse established in 1808. This lighthouse, first overseen by a keeper appointed by President Thomas Jefferson, adds historical depth to the beautiful shoreline.
Another notable site is the Chatham Windmill, also called the Godfrey Windmill, which dates back to 1797. Built by Col. Benjamin Godfrey, it remains one of the rare wind-powered grist mills on Cape Cod, offering a unique glimpse into the region’s early industrial heritage.
In addition to Chatham, Travel Curator highlighted two other charming New England towns: Stowe, Vermont, and Mystic, Connecticut, each recognized for their unique offerings and scenic appeal.
