It’s upon us - the ice has been dumped, the blades have been sharp’d, the sound has been checked, the lemons are prepped. Let’s get to it.

Wellfleet OysterFest 2024
Someone's hands have finished shucking an oyster. One hand grips the shell, the other the knife. The seawater from inside pours out. One hand wears a white knit glove, the other a blue rubber glove.

Let’s get to it, indeed. Stands to mention that we’re publishing this synthesized run of show because the schedule on Wellfleet Oyster Alliance’s site induces vertigo.

This year’s attendance is fully expected to shame last year’s 20,000 weekend visitors - itself not a number to sneeze at. The organizers have been stepping up the event's status consistently and this weekend may be the inflection point. So grab your horseradish, put on your comfortable shoes, and remember experts say that anymore than a dozen oysters a day may give you some stomach trouble. But they also recommend cooking them before you eat them, so who’s gonna listen to those squares anyway. I hear sweet potato fries are a pretty good chaser - I’m sure there’s someplace around you can land an order.
